Aviation and
Space Hall of Fame - Niagara Frontier
Bob Miller, a local Certified Flight Instructor and Instrument Instructor, has seemed to burst upon the national stage with his publication of the internet based "Over the Airwaves" monthly safety newsletter. To shed some numbers on how mainstream he has become, Bob Miller currently reaches over 10,000 subscribers around the world each month. Along with the newsletter, Bob Miller is able to connect to more than 50,000 subscribers each week with his aviation safety podcasts, which are available on the Aero-News Network. The explosive growth of his publication and podcasts and his elevation to an almost cult figure in aviation are, remarkably, all the result of word of mouth. He has done this by writing and teaching about aviation safety in a revolutionary manner. He takes a real world approach to aviation safety and is a strong advocate of improving both the performance standings and teaching methods for pilot training. His strategy is to use real scenarios to teach pilots both the mechanical flying skills as well as the decision making skills they need to stay safe. Bob, through his words and advice, has been able to strike a chord with his readers, listeners and most importantly, his students who see the improvement in their flying skills after applying his strategies. Bob's students are evangelical in their praise of his ability to teach complex ideas in an easily understandable manner. Being an advocate for safety, Bob has been an outspoken critic of the general aviation flight training industry. He has taken on the established flight training industry, the FAA, and the "alphabet" organizations, asking tough questions on aviation safety. Bob even demanded clarifications of vague regulations dealing with flight in known icing conditions. His actions forced the FAA to rewrite the regulations. Bob has been deeply involved in the Adventures in Aviation Program. He is a member of the Aero Club of Buffalo, promoting the organization's programs in his publication. Bob is presently at work on a book about corporate aviation in and around Western New York. The book is called "Adventures in Flight." His growing influence and prominence on the national stage makes him an ideal candidate for the Niagara Frontier Aviation and Space Hall of Fame. |
